Our view

Resting on the rocks, just above the waterline, this seafront studio is simplicity itself. At this lovely villa in the heart of Corfu’s Kalamaki and Apraos bays, life is all about location.

In brief

  • Magnificent sea views
  • Waterside location
  • Direct access to the sea

About the villa

Packing comfort and character into its compact space, this old stone cottage has been lovingly converted since its former use by sardine fishermen.  Now its traditional green-shuttered windows sport country-style checked curtains, and a table for two is set under the sill. Air conditioning has been added, space has been created for a simple kitchenette and a little shower room, and, on a platform raised to just the right level, the beds are at window height to see the sea, which gently laps at the edge of the villa’s large sunbathing terrace.A seafront al fresco dining area has views right down the shoreline, and a few steps away is Kalamaki’s long sandy beach, where there is a taverna and beach bar.  The beach and Apraos Studio can, of course, be accessed without dipping a toe in the water, with a series of steps leading up from the cottage to road level. While this little gem is delightfully low key, Kassiopi is just 6km along the coast to raise the pace a little, with tennis, water sports, restaurants, bars and nightlife.

About the area

Kalamaki, Perithia & Agios Ioannis

Average weather

Corfu’s north coast, where the lower slopes of its highest mountain Pantokrator sink below the waves, is gentler than the north-east, and provides excellent bathing too. The stretch between Kalamaki and St. Spiridion faces the mountains of Albania stacked up across the straits; it is quiet and user-friendly, yet close enough to buzzing towns like Kassiopi and Roda for tastes of a party atmosphere. A holiday in Perithia, puts you in the island’s oldest village, sitting three kilometres behind and well above the coast, about half-way to Pantokator’s summit.
