About the villa

Innately elegant, inside and out, La Corte’s pale primrose walls, punctuated with shuttered windows, give a first impression of a rather traditional country house. Long lawns studded with young cypress spires support this timeless image, but, like a book and its cover, the real story is within, and it is a 21st century classic of style, design and quality. On the ground floor, a well-equipped and very contemporary kitchen is joined by a smart sitting room, flooded with light from three gracefully arched double doors, which lead out to the garden and veranda dining area. A billiard and TV room is divided by a modern double-sided fireplace, and one of the five bedrooms is also at this level. Two twin rooms share the first floor with a second sitting room, and the master suite is one of two double suites at the top of the three storey house. With soft neutral décor and bleached timber beams, each bedroom also has air conditioning. There are gorgeous rural views from the villa’s hillside gardens, the lawns around the swimming pool enjoying the best of them. And La Corte is just 12km from boutiques and restaurants in beautiful Lucca.

About the area

Lucca, Pisa & Lunigiana

Average weather

Although they are only 17km apart, Pisa and Lucca instantly feel like different worlds. The former is a lively student city on the River Arno, and has one of the world’s most recognizable monuments: the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Understated Lucca is compact and genteel, ideal for a Tuscany villa nearby, with handsome piazzas that frame churches in the Luccan-Romanesque style. Those on a Lunigiana holiday occupy the Apennine foothills in far north-western Tuscany. It is rolling, blissfully empty terrain whose few inhabitants have cultural links with neighbouring Liguria.
