Secluded in the countryside just 1.5km from shops and restaurants in Casalguidi and 11km from all amenities in historic Pistoia, this pretty yellow house with breathtaking panoramic views is striking from the get-go. Surrounded by olive groves, fruit trees and delicate rose gardens, this is a retreat that's been made for complete privacy. The large outdoor swimming pool welcomes lazy days, with loungers, furnished patios and oversized umbrellas, while inside, the villa indulges with a classic country-chic character. Through the spacious main entrance hall, the large open-plan lounge is a relaxation haven, furnished with sink-worthy sofas and intricately patterned rugs. Both simple yet sophisticated, some of the room's eye-catching furnishings include an old wooden piano and the standout corner fireplace. Through the sitting room an adjoining dining area has sliding glass doors that lead out to a charming terrace overlooking lovely country views. Average weather

Although they are only 17km apart, Pisa and Lucca instantly feel like different worlds. The former is a lively student city on the River Arno, and has one of the world’s most recognizable monuments: the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Understated Lucca is compact and genteel, ideal for a Tuscany villa nearby, with handsome piazzas that frame churches in the Luccan-Romanesque style. Those on a Lunigiana holiday occupy the Apennine foothills in far north-western Tuscany. It is rolling, blissfully empty terrain whose few inhabitants have cultural links with neighbouring Liguria.
