About the villa
Simply styled, unpretentious and furnished for comfort, this pretty stone house stands in a gated garden with stunning views over the valley below. To one side of the villa, in the perfect spot to enjoy the panorama, a lawned terrace, backed by flowering shrubs, is home to the ten metre swimming pool and poolside dining patio, with a built-in barbecue and pizza oven tucked between the olive trees. Within the cottage, tiled floors, beamed ceilings, traditional and antique furniture are complemented with satellite TV, WiFi, and modern appliances in the country kitchen. With a breakfast table in the kitchen and a dining area and open fireplace in the sitting room, both of the ground floor rooms open on to the garden, while three bedrooms on the first floor include the master double with en suite shower room. In an area of Tuscany famed for its fine olive oil and beautiful banks of camellias, the villa is a well-placed base for local exploration. Shops, bars and restaurants in Castelvecchio di Compito are within 2km. Lucca is just 15km away, and the vibrant beach and bars of Viareggio are well within day trip distance.

Although they are only 17km apart, Pisa and Lucca instantly feel like different worlds. The former is a lively student city on the River Arno, and has one of the world’s most recognizable monuments: the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Understated Lucca is compact and genteel, ideal for a Tuscany villa nearby, with handsome piazzas that frame churches in the Luccan-Romanesque style. Those on a Lunigiana holiday occupy the Apennine foothills in far north-western Tuscany. It is rolling, blissfully empty terrain whose few inhabitants have cultural links with neighbouring Liguria.
