Siracusa and Southern Sicily, Sicily, Italy
Seamlessly positioned to capture the panoramic views over the famous Vendicari nature reserve, this villa with infinity pool marries traditional and modern Italian design with exceptional landscape and garden design by Ivan Gallo.
Showcasing exceptional Italian workmanship, this villa provides incredibly versatile living where indoor and outdoor areas blend with great harmony with the natural surroundings. An antique wooden door opens leads you to the impressive entrance hall. The interiors are in some parts traditional, and in other parts more contemporary. A modern library area has been placed in the sitting room adjoining the main dining room. A living room has sleek modern furniture and TV has large picture windows. The five bedrooms, some opening outside and some with with terrace, have been decorated with a blend of considered Italian finishes and the highest quality fixtures and fittings. All have a private dressing rooms and a bathroom. Each one of these has been fitted in classic Sicilian majolica with ‘his and hers’ basins, large showers, WC and are lit by skylights.
A pathway leads to the covered-out door lounging area covered with a natural pergola and its vines. The open-air kitchen provides an exceptional vantage point to enjoy the views and sit around the large table enjoying freshly barbecued fish from Siracusa’s fish market. The infinity pool has two shaded terrace areas and a roof terrace and from here there are wonderful sunsets. Here there is also a small air-conditioned gym, changing room, shower and WC.
What sets this villa apart is the exceptional quality of the landscaping around which follows the undulations of the land around the villa in total harmony with the views of the Vendicari nature reserve. As you move from the main gate through the meadows and pathways to the dry cactus gardens around this villa, Ivan Gallo has created a distinctive atmosphere conveying a true sense of the place. A small pond is carefully set into the garden meadows to deliver spatial serenity, offering at the same time sweeping views of the immediate landscape. For those uninterested in lazing by the pool, Vendicari provides an alluring medley of lagoons, sand dunes, rocky coastlines and uninhabited sandy beaches – the perfect seaside walk with only the waves, birds and wind for company.

As one of the quieter destinations on the diverse island of Sicily, the south is home to some of the top, one and two Michellin star restaurants in the country. And it’s no wonder, with the abundance beautiful local produce available. As in all parts of Sicily, there is a contrast in landscape from the marshland of Vendicari to the rebuilt towns of Noto and Ragusa. Siracusa has a tradition in making puppets - buy one as a souvenir or visit the puppet theatre for some light entertainment. Or try out the range of restaurants, bars and tours for a relaxing evening with friends.
