Siracusa and Southern Sicily, Sicily, Italy
With a private pool in extensive lawned gardens, this is a lovely villa in the heart of Sicily’s baroque area, quietly positioned midway between the Iblean Mountains and Siracusa coast.
Looking out over open panoramas, liberally sprinkled with carob, almond and olive trees, this family villa offers the best of both worlds in the Sicilian sun. Quietly positioned in the countryside, it is set between the baroque towns of Noto and Palazzolo Acriede, each listed as a UNESCO cultural heritage site, and both within easy reach for sightseeing. The villa itself is built in local rural style, its spacious interiors designed for comfort and featuring pretty painted beds and vintage wooden furniture. It is surrounded by extensive mature gardens, where a thirteen metre swimming pool forms the obvious focal point, with broad lawns to three sides and a paved sun terrace. The pool is overlooked by a covered dining terrace, and there is an outdoor shower, barbecue, and al fresco seating area under tree shade. Cook service can be pre-booked for an extra leisurely stay, and bike hire is one of several services which can be arranged locally. At the island’s southern tip, Villa Cozzo is 15km from Rosolini and 25km from the beach at Vendicari. The nearest shop is just 1km away.

As one of the quieter destinations on the diverse island of Sicily, the south is home to some of the top, one and two Michellin star restaurants in the country. And it’s no wonder, with the abundance beautiful local produce available. As in all parts of Sicily, there is a contrast in landscape from the marshland of Vendicari to the rebuilt towns of Noto and Ragusa. Siracusa has a tradition in making puppets - buy one as a souvenir or visit the puppet theatre for some light entertainment. Or try out the range of restaurants, bars and tours for a relaxing evening with friends.
