About the villa
Sympathetically restored to retain its three centuries of character, and unobtrusively updated with the contemporary facilities, this lovely old house and guesthouse nestle amid two acres of picturesque gardens and grounds. Palms, flowering shrubs and numerous types of fruit and citrus trees fill its garden terraces, whilst it also has its own olive grove, from which organic olive oil is made most years. A stroll through the tiered garden reveals a picnic table in a sunny spot, a classic stone fountain, a pergola cloaked in bougainvillea and, privately positioned just below the main house the pretty guesthouse and oval swimming pool. There is a shower and thatched shade at the poolside with sundowner seating and millstone tables, rustic benches with beautiful rural and sea views that stretch right down the coast to Corfu Town. Inside the villa there are two Jacuzzi bathrooms and three charming bedrooms, each with air conditioning; a country kitchen is fitted with quality appliances; and the beamed sitting room has big sofas, a wood-burning stove and wall mounted TV, and opens on to a large covered dining and seating area.
The guesthouse has air conditioning and comprises a lovely open plan sitting room, kitchen area and washroom downstairs. Upstairs, two bedrooms, one a kingsize with four poster bed and a small double bedroom (suitable for one adult or two children) share a bathroom.
"For the last few decades I’ve been *looks down, kicks a few pebbles along the road* an award-winning travel writer, visiting far-flungery from the Arctic Circle to the Cape of Good Hope. So when the Daily Mail sent me to the Olivestone I was very pleased, but to be honest, a little blasé.
But I was enchanted, even seduced by the utter beauty and serenity of the place. Hand on heart, I can honestly say it’s the only place I’ve returned to under my own steam (and pocket) and intend to keep doing so.

Gouvia was once a Venetian naval base and a way-station for the London–Karachi flying-boat service; it now has the island’s biggest marina. Close by, upmarket Kommeno, and the former fishing villages of Nissaki and Barbati for a holiday, represent the best of rural Corfu. Civilized yet unspoilt, the area is half way along Corfu’s most beautiful stretch of coast. Yet, since it flanks the main road, from here the whole of northern Corfu is open to exploration, by bus or—better still—by car.
