About the villa

With a broad, breeze-cooled veranda encircling the house and encompassing a fully screened lounge and bar, Villa Veranda is very aptly named. On the upper level, with doors to the al fresco living space, an open-plan sitting/dining room adjoins the kitchen, and the master double room has a connecting bedroom for a child. Three further bedrooms share the lower ground floor, which is also hemmed by a shaded terrace. This very comfortable family house stands in almost an acre of landscaped gardens, where lawns are punctuated with flowering shrubs, and surrounded by trees for shade and privacy.

To the rear of the villa, with palm trees standing sentinel beside it, a lovely free-form swimming pool is splashed by a waterfall cascade, and overlooked by a poolside gazebo. There is ample sunbathing space on the poolside terrace and in the gardens, while the best spot for sundowners in undoubtedly the veranda. Cook service could add an extra level of leisure here, and the villa is within easy reach of the beach, tennis, golf and Charlestown.

About the area

Nevis

Average weather

This conical island with a dormant volcano at its centre lies sixty five kilometres west of Antigua. Nevis has a largely undeveloped coastline of white-sand beaches fringed by palm groves. Restored plantation houses—many of them now inns—stand above the ocean, among hills cloaked in tropical forest. Sitting in a rocking chair on a clapboard porch, reading a good book or admiring the view, is a common pastime on Nevis holidays. But there is also a good selection of land- and water-sports and historic sites to visit. In Charlestown, the capital, the Bath Hotel and Spring House was where British colonists took the waters; and at the Hamilton Estate you can walk around sugar plantation ruins.
