About the villa
Makana on the Beach is a two-storey villa with a private annexe, ideal for large families or groups of friends alike. Set on its own white sandy beach with gorgeous turquoise waters, this luxurious property is perfectly planned for outdoor living boasting numerous verandas, pergolas, pavilions, extensive lawns, and tropical trees. This villa’s main attraction is the infinity pool just above the private beachfront, from where a coastal roofed pergola can be reached for ultimate relaxation whilst gazing out at the endless sea views. Makana on the Beach has a classic colonial design with pastel colours, shaded terraces, wooden floors, and is richly furnished in Jamaican mahogany and contemporary facilities. The charming living room opens up to a large covered terrace comprising numerous seating areas, an al fresco dining table and a well-appointed bar. The chef prepares three meals a day and treats guests each week with fresh food barbecues fired on the outdoor grill. The well-equipped kitchen and dining area complete the ground floor of the residence. All bedrooms on the upper level have access to a family room and private terraces. The master bedroom, with king size bed and bathroom en suite with separate shower, has an exclusive whirlpool tub. There are two double bedrooms with shower rooms en suite and a double twin room suitable for 4 children with a private bathroom. A unique interior water feature joins the main house to the private annexe, containing three bedrooms all with king size beds and private terraces. There is a double bedroom that can be made as twin with bathroom en suite and two double bedrooms, each with a private shower room. Sea kayaks, snorkelling equipment, a private tennis court, and the well-equipped gym provide a great selection of activities for guests staying at the property, as well as the added luxury of a chef and butler included. Makana on the Beach is within walking distance of Discovery Bay and thirty minutes by road from all amenities in Ocho Rios.

For all villas in Jamaica there are fixed staff gratuities that are payable on top of the villa rental price: 10% of the villa rental in High Season, 15% in Low Season. These can be paid locally in cash (US dollars or Jamaican dollars) but we strongly recommend pre-paying them with your holiday balance so that this is all taken care of beforehand as it is often difficult to withdraw large amounts of cash locally
A typical grocery budget is US$55-$65 per adult per day and US$25 per day for preteens [Note: A few villas have higher food and beverage budgets.]. This may vary up or down depending on market prices and menus. If you request shrimp, lobster, imported beef or large quantities of other food items, this estimate will increase. Your cook will pre-purchase your first few meals, pantry staples and a small starter bar (a few bottles of Red Stripe, moderately-priced wine and rum). Additional alcohol requests will increase your budget.
If you wish to go to the various markets with your cook, you are welcome. Otherwise, simply review with them your tastes and distastes and they'll handle it all while you stay at the villa and relax. At week's end, they will present receipts and reconcile your account. Please be prepared to pay for your groceries with cash or credit cards and to tip your villa staff and driver with cash. We cannot accept prepayment for groceries or staff gratuities at Tryall Club villas. They will welcome both US and Jamaican dollars.
Estimating grocery costs is not a science. Much depends on the menus you want and current market prices. Obviously, this is a variable so anticipate that your cook may refund money at week's end... or ask you for more money mid-week. In either case, your cook or chef will reconcile your food and beverage bill at week's end.
On your first day at the villa, your cook will meet with you regarding menus for the week, then finish the week's shopping. At that time, you will give them cash for your food and drink plus their $60 taxi fare. Alternatively, if one or more of you wish to go to the supermarket with your cook, you may use your credit card. (Stores will not accept your card from your cook if you are not present with them.) Roadside vendors of fresh fruits and produce will require cash.

The day starts while guests are still asleep. The cook quietly places pots of steaming Jamaican coffee on the veranda. Full breakfast is served when all guests are ready. A typical breakfast may include fresh-squeezed orange juice and fresh fruits, banana fritters or plantain, eggs, bacon, pancakes or cereal ~ or Jamaican ackee and salt fish. For lunches and dinners, your cook will prepare their own mix of Jamaican specialties ~ including delicious homemade soups and desserts, lobster, curried goat, jerk pork or chicken, pasta, lamb, beef, fresh fish ~ or serve traditional American fare as you request. Warning: Jamaican cooks are excellent and portions are generous! Your cook will handle grocery shopping and meal preparation. Your chambermaid and laundress will care for every detail of your bedroom and bath ~ providing fresh linens and flowers, returning your neatly-folded laundry, and turning down your bed each evening. The gardener will maintain the pool and grounds immaculately each day. If there is a butler included, then they serve, tend bar and generally facilitate.

Lying to the south of Cuba, Jamaica is the third-largest island in the Caribbean. Rainforest covered hills around Port Antonio contrast with swampy morass at the Royal Palm Reserve and the white-sand beaches of the north coast resorts. Music is an integral part of the country’s culture: on a Jamaica holiday, you will hear reggae playing in almost every bar, restaurant, and shop, and gospel harmonies ring out from white-washed churches. Life in Jamaica’s beach resorts—Negril, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios—is laid-back and easy-going—except when you visit the markets, where stallholders insist upon good-natured haggling.
