About the villa

A brilliant blend of country house style and charm, Villa Massarosa sits amid broad lawns and natural gardens, just 5km from the vibrant resort of Viareggio and 7km from the beach. Medieval Lucca makes a magical change of scene and tempo, 25km away, and cook service could be added here for truly lazy days. The villa itself encourages a relaxed lifestyle with a large and lovely swimming pool, a poolside gazebo forming an al fresco sitting room, a covered dining terrace with a pair of Balinese-style day beds, and a barbecue and pizza oven for leisurely lunches outdoors. Within the house, a sunny and spacious sitting room has ample sofas and easy chairs, and French windows on to the terrace; the well-equipped kitchen incorporates a convivial dining area, and air conditioning is available in the five bedrooms. The villa is replete with phone, WiFi, iPod dock and satellite TV, and an unusual additional feature occupies the lower ground floor, where a very stylised, rug-strewn room focuses on a Jacuzzi and steam bath.

About the area

Tuscany Coast and Surrounds

Average weather

The Maremma is a complete contrast to the classic Tuscan landscapes further north. Gone are the corrugated hills, cypress trees, and vineyards; replaced by fruit orchards and dairy herds—the fertile coastal plains here are Tuscany’s breadbasket. Port-resorts such as Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole are popular weekend bolt-holes for trendy Romans. Inland, where the coastal plains bump into the hills of the Alta Maremma, summer nights on a Tuscany holiday are fresher around hill-towns like Magliano in Toscana and Paganico.

Please note that there is a European tourist tax payable on arrival to the House Manager. This only applies to guests over 12 years and the amount varies from €1 .50 to €5 per person and is set by the local council. Further details will be advised prior to arrival

Having a barbecue in Italy is one of the best ways to cook your food but you may find that due to long drought periods in high season barbecuing may be restricted in some areas. You will be informed if this happens by your house staff or local representative.
