Mykonos villa holiday guide

At the touristic heart of the Cyclades, Mykonos was a small fishing village in a former life. The island oozes luxury and today its exciting energy draws travellers from around the globe seeking St Tropez style glamour, peppered with gorgeous beaches, crystalline waters and endless photo opportunities. The capital Mykonos Town is so picturesque that it is sometimes hard to believe it is real; the thumping disco beat at Paradise Beach on the bustling south coast is a delight for party-people; the ancient Greek architecture on the UNESCO-protected museum-island of Delos is eerie and diverting. Because of this variety, Mykonos villas allow you to create your own dream holiday experience. Accommodation wise, think white-washed, contemporary villas with incredible sea views and impressive private pools. Away from your villa, experience a culinary journey through laidback tavernas to fine dining, while a vast range of markets and boutiques form a shoppers paradise.

Beaches

Calling all beach-bunnies; Mykonos is the island for you with a total of 25 sparkling white-sand beaches to choose from. All our villas are located close to the coast, meaning you’ll never be far from those soft sands. In the north of the island Ornos beach is a family-friendly paradise, as is Psarou beach, both of which are located on the south-west coast. Platis Gialos Beach has crystal clear warm waters for swimming, and from here you can jump on a hop-on/hop-off boat to discover other beaches nearby such as Paradise and Super Paradise - great for groups of friends in search of a party and superb diving. If you are looking for a serene beach to unwind with a book, pick a less organized one on the northern coast of the island, like Ayia Ánna, Houlákia, Kápari, Agrári or Ayios Stéfanos.

Island Beauty

An island hotspot for the Instagram generation; cascading white-washed houses and cerulean seas create an idyllic backdrop for your villa holiday snapshots. Head to the waterfront cafes of little Venice for views of the iconic windmills and colourful balconies, while sipping on iced coffee. Little Venice is also a great spot for shopping, browse unique boutiques for casual fashion and holiday souvenirs before heading back to your villa to relax. For further exploration, the tiny capital town of Hora is home to some impressive Cycladic architecture, where narrow marble streets and hidden churches are brought to life by cascading blooms of pretty purple bougainvillea.

History

Just to the west of the island is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ancient Delos—boats shuttle you there from a dedicated dock in Mykonos Town. Take a day out away from the comfort of your villa to visit its ancient houses, Sacred Way, and the Lion Terrace. Upon your return to Mykonos town, before heading back to your private pool to cool off, keep your eyes peeled for popular local resident - Petros the pelican!
