In an unspoilt and totally tranquil setting, looking out to the rolling hills of Grimaud, this delightful family villa sits within a twenty acre estate, half of which is a sun-soaked vineyard. The landscaped gardens are cleverly designed to seem effortlessly natural, their broad lawns sprinkled with trees, sweeping round clusters of colourful shrubs, and surrounding a generously sized private pool which overlooks the grapevines. Within the single-storey villa, rooms are spacious, airy and furnished with elegant simplicity. Each of the four bedrooms opens directly on to the garden and has en suite facilities, one of the bedrooms featuring a freestanding roll-top bath. In contemporary country style, the well-equipped breakfast kitchen has a chunky timber table with bentwood chairs, and French doors to a pergola shaded dining terrace. And a beamed sitting room, with vibrant fabrics and furnishings, focuses on a log fire and adjoins an al fresco seating area. Sandwiched between an azure bay and the rocky outcrops of the Var, the St.-Tropez peninsula offers a patchwork of scenery and experiences. To the west, sun-kissed St. Tropez flaunts its pastel-shaded streets and dinky old port where the glitterati anchor luxury yachts. To the east Fréjus is famed for its Roman ruins and Episcopal baptistery; and the beaches of St. Raphael are frequented by water-sports lovers. Add to this the volcanic, red Massif de l’Estérel, whose peaks are perfect for hiking expeditions, and in the Bay of St. Tropez you have yourself one varied holiday destination.
