So wine may not be the first thing that springs to mind when planning a holiday to Lefkada, but there are in fact three lovely wineries on the island recommended by our resort representative Maria that are well worthy of a visit.
Starting with Lefkaditiki Gi Winery, also known as Lefkas Earth is based in the village of Syvros in Southern Lefkada.
This is the one winery where you do not have to book an appointment. Visit anytime between 10am and 8pm over the summer months and enjoy a guided tour up to an hour long, learning the traditional way of winemaking in Lefkada.
The second is Siflogos Winery, located in the little mountainous village of Platistoma where five different types of wine are produced.
This winery works by appointment only, which Maria can arrange locally for guests and has been a great success in the past.
Maria told us of a couple who recently visited on their honeymoon who left Siflogos with not one, but two cases they liked it so much! Make sure to do a taste test in the specially designed underground area!
And last but not least, is Karsanikos Winery based in a traditional stone house in Karia, also available to visit via appointment. Here guests can see the modern equipment and technology used in their current winemaking process, as well as learning about the historical techniques and equipment used in the past. Don’t miss the guest room where visitors can taste the wine while enjoying the wonderful view
Where to stay in Lefkada
For visiting Lefkaditiki Gi Winery, we recommend staying at Villa Sapphira just a 5 minute drive away with countryside views and splendid beaches nearby.
If you're planning to visit Siflogos Winery, we recommend a week at Villa Salvia in nearby Nikiana. This family villa is within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the beach, while a taxi to the winery takes just 20 minutes.
Villa Galatia is a great villa for guests visiting Karsanikos Winery. It's a lovely spot for up to 6 guests sharing, with breathtaking sea views and a tennis court shared with sister villa Galini.
