About the villa

Tenuta del Vescovo is a wonderful historic house that dates back over a thousand years, initially built as a mill for grain and wheat. The historic landscape surrounding the villa abounds in rich green laws, olive trees and pastoral slopes. Inside, the entrance lounge, dining room and kitchen on the ground floor serve as the living area of the house, while it also boasts six elegant bedrooms. The first is 'I Cipressi', the master bedroom with timeless shades of green that reflect the vibrant cypresses in the garden. The spacious bathroom is characterized by the presence of a freestanding bathtub, from which guests can admire an enchanting view. 'Il Susino' is a double bedroom oozing charm and elegance, with exposed wood beam ceilings and shades of pink inspired by the garden's plum trees. 'La Camera Antica' features a parquet flooring, a crystal chandelier, en suite shower room  and luxurious super king-size bed. 'Le Macine' is a double suite situated in what was once the villa's stable, with direct garden views, a covered terrace and outdoor seating area. It borders the room where the millstones are carefully preserved. 'Il Rosmarino' is located on the left of the building and consists of a ground floor double room with an en suite, alongside a mezzanine with two single beds. This room also opens to a side terrace with a dining space. ''Il Leccio' is the guesthouse, converted from an ancient sawmill. Inside, the guesthouse consists of a living room with a fireplace, a kitchen with a historic marble sink, and a master bedroom with an open shower.

The loggias located at the back of the villa are where the mill's water channels, used to power the grain millstones, can still be found today. There are plenty of shaded and sun-kissed spots for dining and unwinding, alongside a swimming pool set into the lawns with shaded pergola with seating and  outside kitchen.  The sound of the nearby river and backdrop of the Tuscan hills contribute to the villa's magical and relaxing atmosphere. What's more, there is a private riverside area where guests can reconnect with nature, furnished with a dining table and sun loungers. The villa is located within easy reach of Florence, and also boasts an included breakfast and concierge service.

About the area

Chianti and South of Siena

Average weather

The hills south of Florence, known as the Chianti, look like most people’s idea of ‘classic Tuscany’. Fortress towns such as Castellina and Radda look out over mile after mile of rolling, vine-clad fields, spotted with Tuscany villas. The region’s major annual festival, September’s Rassegna del Chianti Classico in Greve, celebrates the grape harvest, and signs inviting anyone on a Chianti holiday to a roadside enoteca (wine tasting canteen or shop) are a common sight. The Gothic city of Siena, south of Chianti, is the biggest hill-town of all, with a stash of Medieval art and architecture unmatched in Italy.

But Tuscany still has surprises to offer, and unknown even to many Italians. Maremma, only a two-hour drive southwest of the city of Florence is an extensive and largely undeveloped territory in stark contrast to the compact, ordered Chianti hillsides around Florence and Siena that have, until now, been the major draw for visiting wine lovers. The Maremma has great restaurants, and a treasure trove of new wineries.
