About the villa
A rare find and a very romantic retreat, this remarkable villa in Lefkada is a perfect place just for two – private, peaceful and supremely stylish, with picture perfect panoramas. A stone-built cottage in traditional Ionian island style, the chic interiors of this enchanting villa belie its unassuming outline. Spacious rooms are adorned with black and white furnishings on pale cream floors, creating a calming atmosphere of cool, contemporary comfort. The ground floor is almost entirely open-plan, with a smart kitchen/dining/sitting room with double doors on to the pool terrace and those beautiful views. A spiral staircase leads to the large bedroom with bed with the finest linens, occupying the lower ground floor. Outdoors, there are loungers by the pool, an al fresco dining terrace and a built-in barbecue. While the villa is ideal for two, a sofa bed in the living room could sleep another couple if required. Atokos Cottage is on the same estate as the larger Atokos House and, while it is independent and secluded, the two could be rented together for larger parties of friends. The scenic harbour of Sivota is a 4km drive away, with a beach, fresh fish tavernas, shops and cafes. A prestigious winery is also within easy reach.

In the Ionian family of islands, Lefkada is the black sheep. For a start, it is connected to the mainland by a causeway and bridge, and so does not have to rely on ferries. Unlike the rest of the archipelago, it was conquered by the Ottoman Empire, and pronounced Turkish influences give it more in common with the mainland. Lefkada holidays take you to something of an under-appreciated—and slightly oddball—gem, with intricate lagoons and marshes, spectacular cliffs, bays, and headlands, and some of the best beaches in Greece. In addition to Lefkada Town and Nidri, there are smaller resorts on the east coast at Perigiali, Nikiana and Lygia; and regular ferries ply between Lefkada and the nearby islands of Meganissi, Ithaca, and Kefalonia.
