About the villa
This beautiful modern villa is set amongst olive trees, plumbago and other shrubs close to the coast, mid-way between Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca, just 2.4km from excellent inexpensive restaurants and shops in the picturesque village of Spongano. Beautifully furnished in contemporary elegant Italian style, its white walls form a blank backdrop for smart soft furnishings and a few antique pieces. Once inside, on the left hand side there is an open plan sitting room with contemporary white sofas leading through to the dining area with beautiful cupboard housing all table and glassware. Off here, the new kitchen with beautiful tiles opens to a service courtyard with sink, shower and a utility area. Accessed from a corridor leading to the right from the entrance hall to the rear of the house, the three bedrooms are all spacious. A double and a twin bedroom share a new shower room with twin basins. The master bedroom at the far end has a particularly attractive canopy bed and opens to its own private shaded terrace. Affording equal emphasis to al fresco living, the house boasts a large shaded terrace for dining outside, with built in cushioned seating and further comfortable seating adjacent to the large new swimming pool. Steps lead up from here to the roof terrace with further comfortable seating and a dining table and chairs for a different perspective over the gardens. The charming village of Spongano, with an excellent restaurant, Trattoria Picalo, is approximately 30 minute walk from the villa through the countryside for energetic walkers. This is a very central location for those who would like to enjoy wonderful inexpensive restaurants, stunning coastline, beaches, beach clubs and picturesque historic towns of Castro, Otranto, Gallipoli in this quiet and unspoilt corner of southern Italy.

If a building can be a symbol for a whole region, then the trullo stands for Puglia—also known as ‘Apulia’ in English. Think of a Puglia villa holiday and those round, whitewashed limestone buildings with their comical, conical roofs always spring to mind. But there’s more to the region that is the narrow heel of Italy’s boot than trullo country around Alberobello. Discover baroque beauty in Lecce, Emperor Frederick II’s mysterious architecture at the Castel del Monte, and total relaxation on a Puglia villa stay in a rural Masseria.
