Looking out to valley views, Le Rose has been beautifully restored to form a luxury villa. In Puglia’s enchanting Valle d’Itria region, it oozes character. Within walking distance of amenities.
The five-coned roofline of this family villa rises amid fruit trees and flowering shrubs. Stepped into the slope of a gentle hillside, the house has been cleverly designed to maximise indoor space, while incorporating comfort and character. So sitting areas, in the cool stone cone and under architectural arches, are served by satellite TV and Wifi; a wonderfully rustic kitchen / diner is fully equipped with modern facilities but has the look of a ‘hobbit house’; and three pretty bedrooms, with wrought iron and painted wood furniture, are cooled with air conditioning. A spacious main terrace adds al fresco living space with a curtained dining gazebo and sunny sitting area. And stone stairs lead from here to the lower terrace, where loungers line-up by a lovely pool with refreshing hydro-massage jets. The relaxing tempo could be enhanced with (pre-bookable) cook service, though there is a barbecue in the grounds, and a good variety of local shops and restaurants are a walkable 700 –900metres away. Within the UNESCO World Heritage area, the villa is 3km from Alberobello and 22km from Torre Canne beach.

If a building can be a symbol for a whole region, then the trullo stands for Puglia—also known as ‘Apulia’ in English. Think of a Puglia villa holiday and those round, whitewashed limestone buildings with their comical, conical roofs always spring to mind. But there’s more to the region that is the narrow heel of Italy’s boot than trullo country around Alberobello. Discover baroque beauty in Lecce, Emperor Frederick II’s mysterious architecture at the Castel del Monte, and total relaxation on a Puglia villa stay in a rural Masseria.
