How would you spend a day?

As we arrived at Dalaman airport we were greeted by our driver who kindly offered us cold towels and complimentary bottles of water to freshen up after the flight, as we settled in for the journey to our villa.

Upon arrival at Villa Kayra there was a lot of smiling, and laughing at the fact that just three of us were sharing this incredibly spacious villa, that can sleep up to eight guests! This meant that we each enjoyed an en suite double bedroom to ourselves and had to draw straws for the top floor with its own in-room jacuzzi tub and balcony.

After deciding upon our bedrooms, we headed straight out to the pool to relax. The infinity pool is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views to match looking out over the bay of Kalkan. This is where we ended up spening most of the holiday!

Explore the local market on a Thursday morning to pick up fresh fruit and vegetables, jewellery, household items and other souvenirs. Or, as we did, you can arrange to have your grocery shopping delivered ahead of your arrival and you can spend lunch time by the pool, we put some watermelon in the freezer to enjoy homemade ice lollies the following day! We opted for smoothies and a fresh salad for our first meal, while others may prefer to get started on the barbecue right away.

If you can bear to drag yourselves away from the villa, then a trip to Patara Beach is recommended. It’s easy to arrange a taxi to pick you up from the villa and the drive is less than half an hour. On the way to the beach you can choose to explore the ancient ruins of Patara before heading to the 18km long stretch of golden sand. We did the trip in an afternoon, then sat on the beach to watch the sunset.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from in Kalkan and on our first night we went to Baharat restaurant, situated on a rooftop terrace in the old town, serving traditional Turkish cuisine accompanied by beautiful views out to sea.

After a cocktail or two, we made our way back to the villa to rest ahead of another glorious day in Kalkan.
