How travel can have a positive impact

Sustainability is at the forefront of our discerning traveller’s minds. The aim of travelling sustainably is to reduce the negative impact and increase the positive impact that tourism has on our planet and our people. At CV Villas, we are incorporating sustainability principles across our business operations to deliver a positive impact for all. In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development goals, we’ve developed a three pillar approach.

What does Positive Impact mean at CV Villas?

Most of us would like to travel responsibly and at its core, that is what Positive Impact Travel means to us. It’s a way of continuing to travel and enjoy your well earned time off, that benefits both the traveller and the destinations that you are visiting.

How your travel choices affect the wider environment are at the heart of Positive Impact Travel but for us it goes beyond that. Supporting local communities, helping to preserve the local culture and adopting sustainable practices are also woven into our approach to travelling responsibly.

Our places

Sadly there is no quick fix for climate change. While we are in the early stages of our sustainability journey, doing what we can to have a positive impact on the destinations we send our clients to remain at the core of our operations.

The aim is not for anyone to travel less, but to continually improve tourism to benefit our people and our planet. Alongside reducing our carbon footprint, we are putting a plan in place to reduce food waste, conserve water and energy and use of plastic across the business - from CV Villas HQ in London, across each of our destinations.

Our people

Alongside working with our villa owners to support how they can be making a positive impact within their community, our staff in resort will be working with local suppliers to source everything from organic bathroom amenities to local ingredients for our cooks. Our tours and experiences programme will allow travellers to connect directly with local people, engage with and support local communities and connect with destinations on a deeper level.

And while the onus is on us as a business, we hope to include you, our customers, in our move towards making a positive impact.

Our people are passionate about making a difference. To give something back either to the local community or a project they are passionate about, each of our employees are given two additional days’ paid leave per year and encouraged to take part in local volunteering activities.

Our products

A villa holiday generally offers a far more sustainable option compared to hotel stays due to lower energy consumption and greater control over certain factors such as food and drink.

Through this program, we evaluate the villa based on the owner's contributions to local communities, efforts in conservation, resource efficiency, and promotion of conscious travel. As a result, we have curated a remarkable collection of villas that genuinely make a positive impact on the environment and community around them.

When you choose a villa from our Positive Impact Collection, you're not just selecting a villa holiday, you're becoming part of a wider vision for travel that uplifts and inspires. Together, we're creating unforgettable memories while contributing to a brighter, more connected global community.

Travel by Train

We have teamed up with Byway, a leading UK-based travel provider, to organise 100% flight-free travel. This partnership enables you to access a selection of our villas in Europe by train, bus and ferry.

Together we have curated flight-free travel itineraries for you, to some of our most popular villa destinations. These include Italy, France, Portugal, Spain and Greece. We have also included hotel stays along the way or you can build a bespoke itinerary to suit your preferred style of travel. Once you have booked your CV Villa, take a look at some of the suggested pre-built itineraries with Byway or alternatively they can tailor-make an itinerary just for you.

Rail travel emits significantly less carbon than flying, making it an ideal choice if you're looking to reduce your carbon footprint whilst getting to see and experience more along the way. Once arrived at your destination, you can relax and enjoy your CV Villas stay, safe in the knowledge that you have made a more sustainable choice.

Accountability

We're collaborating with our partners to help minimise our carbon footprint. Small changes can significantly reduce your carbon emissions without affecting your villa experience. Partnering with ecollective, we measure and improve our footprint using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and DEFRA's emission factors. While carbon calculations are complex, our system strives for accuracy. We envision a future of meaningful travel: exploring local culture, supporting local businesses, savouring fresh, local food, and making a positive impact on the destinations we visit.

Guidelines, Reporting and Grievance Channel

Our grievance procedure guarantees a trustworthy and at the same time transparent process in dealing with grievances about violations of human rights or environmental obligations. A grievance can be used to report suspicions of possible risks to human or environment rights or violations of due diligence obligation, such as forced labour, child labour, discrimination or the harmful contamination of soil, water and air, as well as detrimental noise and excessive water consumption which are linked to CV Villas, its supply chains or its employees. Grievances can be submitted by employees as well as third parties via the grievance channel by REWE Group – anonymously, if requested.

Customer complaints, for example about the quality of CV Villas products and services, are not considered grievances about human rights or environmental risks or due diligence violations. For these complaints, please do not hesitate to contact the customer service departments and hotlines.

We expressly encourage employees and external parties to inform us of any suspicion on human rights or environmental risks or due diligence violations. Whistleblowers must not suffer any occupational disadvantages as a result of submitting grievances. The grievance procedure follows a defined process, which is also set out in the Rules of Procedure and that complies with the German Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains (LkSG) being applicable to the whole REWE Group (including us) due to its German parent company. Impartiality is guaranteed at all times; those involved in the procedure are not bound by instructions and are obliged to maintain confidentiality.
