About the villa

This delightful villa, surrounded by lovely natural gardens, is built from local stone and traditional materials, incorporating ancient roofing tiles, chestnut beams, doors, window frames and shutters. The property is finished to a high standard using traditional techniques, with rooms decorated using an ancient stucco romano technique, and hand-made Neapolitan tiles in the kitchen. The furniture throughout is antique or hand-made, the paintings and prints framed by the local frame-maker, and the curtain materials sourced from the famous linen stores of Farfa locally. The kitchen has a rustic country feel, but with all the mod-cons needed for a relaxing stay, and there is a dining table as well as several al fresco dining areas. The covered terrace surrounded by gardens suggests the perfect breakfast spot. The attractive pool area offers privacy, as well as stunning countryside views. There is a lovely double bedroom with views of the pool, as well as a second bedroom with a single daybed, and a shower room.

The Sabine Hills are an untouched pocket of central Italy with excellent inexpensive restaurants and excellent walking. Our view is that this is a most attractive, private retreat suitable for those who would like to explore this authentic corner of Italy, yet be within easy access of sightseeing and first class shopping in Rome, easily accessible by train for day trips or an evening out.

About the area

Near Orvieto, Todi & Northern Lazio

Average weather

In the south, an Umbria holiday comes dotted with honey-coloured stone farmsteads and sprinkled with olive groves—this region is not called ‘Italy’s green heart’ for nothing. The towns are a must-see for cathedral connoisseurs: there’s nothing restrained about the façade at Orvieto, yet one simple rose window is all that breaks up the classy simplicity at Todi. All of southern Umbria’s villas are within day-trip distance of Rome, too: the station at Orvieto has a fast link with the capital.
