About the villa
A rambling, old stone farmhouse, built into the hillside, Casa Vorno is a well-planned and beautifully restored family villa, whose style and setting reflects the best of Tuscany’s attractions. The village of Vorno, renowned for its gorgeous 17th century houses, is just 2km from the villa. The historic streets, fine restaurants and boutiques of lovely Lucca are a 9km drive away, and the lively beach resort of Viareggio makes a great change of scene and tempo, within 35km. Yet the house enjoys a peaceful position, with views of unspoilt countryside from its sunny courtyard garden and shaded poolside loungers. The fourteen metre swimming pool is perfectly placed in a grassy terrace, while the courtyard is furnished for al fresco dining, accessed from a very contemporary kitchen. Social space within the villa includes an elegant sitting room with an open fire, a smart and modern TV room, and a dining room with a chunky timber table comfortably seating ten. And each of the five beamed bedrooms is stylishly uncluttered and complete with en suite bath or shower room. Cook service could add an extra level of leisurely relaxation.

Although they are only 17km apart, Pisa and Lucca instantly feel like different worlds. The former is a lively student city on the River Arno, and has one of the world’s most recognizable monuments: the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Understated Lucca is compact and genteel, ideal for a Tuscany villa nearby, with handsome piazzas that frame churches in the Luccan-Romanesque style. Those on a Lunigiana holiday occupy the Apennine foothills in far north-western Tuscany. It is rolling, blissfully empty terrain whose few inhabitants have cultural links with neighbouring Liguria.
