About the villa
Cloaked in blossoming climbers and set amid long lawns, Casa Freddana is a typically Tuscan farmhouse both indoors and out. Tiled floors, beamed ceilings and colour-washed walls, characteristic of its age and location, are enhanced now with charming country-style comfort throughout its inviting interiors. In the kitchen modern appliances complement a fireplace and the original wood oven, and French windows open on to a south-facing dining terrace, overlooking valley views and shaded by a rose-draped rustic pergola.A bright sitting room, adjacent dining room and twin bedroom share the ground floor. A second twin room enjoys independent access from the garden at lower ground level, and three bedrooms on the upper floor include the spacious master suite, with its four-poster double, soft toned décor, and en suite bath and shower. In the sloping grounds above the house, a generously sized swimming pool is surrounded by lawns, shrubs and olive trees, and makes a relaxing look-out point for fabulous views of forested hills. And all this is just 3km from shops in San Martino in Freddana, and 8km from Lucca’s excellent eateries.

Average weather
Although they are only 17km apart, Pisa and Lucca instantly feel like different worlds. The former is a lively student city on the River Arno, and has one of the world’s most recognizable monuments: the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Understated Lucca is compact and genteel, ideal for a Tuscany villa nearby, with handsome piazzas that frame churches in the Luccan-Romanesque style. Those on a Lunigiana holiday occupy the Apennine foothills in far north-western Tuscany. It is rolling, blissfully empty terrain whose few inhabitants have cultural links with neighbouring Liguria.
