why hire a boat?

For those staying on the coast, a boat is a ‘must’ and will add to the overall enjoyment of the holiday. During high season, it is also the quickest way to get around and ideal for reaching waterside tavernas and idyllic, deserted coves with their translucent waters. We strongly recommend that guests do not travel to Anti Paxos in their hired boat, as the sea can get rough between the two islands.

Water-skiing from a Rented Speedboat

It is against Greek law to water-ski from behind a rented boat without having two people in the boat with "Ski Instructor" licences. If you do not have licenses then our suppliers can arrange for a Private water-ski instructor to join you in your boat at an additional direct to the supplier.

Our prices include:

• Greek VAT

• Life-jackets and flares are included by law. Children’s life-jackets are available on request but supplies are limited, please request at time of booking. Life-jackets for infants (i.e. under 2 years) are not available.

Rates exclude the following items (payable locally):

• Fuel is supplied by the boat supplier and this must be paid locally to the boat supplier. A deposit of Euro 100 is payable against fuel costs on collection of boats. •Any damage incurred during the period of rental will be charged and is not covered by insurance. Please check if you are covered by your travel insurance policy

Boats and Speedboats

No licence is required for boats up to and including 30HP. A boat with an engine capacity over 30HP is considered a speedboat and a licence is required by the driver. No licence is required for boats up to and including 30HP. The “International Helmsman Certificate of Competence” can be obtained, usually within a month, at any RYA recognised establishment in the UK or by contacting The Royal Yachting Association, General Enquiries, Tel: +44 (0)2380 604100 or 0845 345 0400, WWW.RYA.ORG.UK.  For those without a licence, speedboats on Corfu can also be hired with a local driver.

Small boat hire

Small boats and speedboats can be pre-booked with our UK office prior to departure and early reservations are recommended, especially for July and August, as availability is limited. Please click on the destination above right, for more detailed information.

We recommend that the capacity of the boat hired exceeds the number in the party and guests should be aware that infants under two years of age count as a person on boats and should therefore be considered when booking prior to departure through the UK office. The relatively small extra cost for a larger boat and engine ensures maximum comfort and speed, particularly for ‘all adult’ parties. Local regulations do not permit you to exceed the boat capacity.

Speedboats

All drivers must be very competent and hold a current speedboat licence. Any boat with an engine capacity over 30 HP is considered a speedboat and therefore a licence, such as the ‘International Helmsman Certificate of Competence’, mentioned above is required by the driver.

Due to current Greek government legislation, water skiing is not available with any hire boats on any island. Water skiing is available with our water sports suppliers.

Petrol
The approximate cost of a tank of fuel is EUR 40 and it is fair to expect to use between a half tank and a full tank of fuel per day when hiring a 30HP boat. This is very much a guide and will vary according to size of boat, distance travelled and local fuel prices. Please ask the supplier when collecting your boat for a more accurate estimate

Windsurfers

Windsurfers can be hired locally on most islands. For clients on Corfu in the Kassiopi and St. Stephano area, windsurfers may be reserved in advance. Minimum 1 week rentals at a cost of approximately £100 per week, payable locally. We advise all guests to inspect windsurfers as they may vary in size and standard. Guests taking their own windsurfers to Greece will have to pay excess baggage and additional transfer cost.

Larger motorboats and yachts

The Aegean and Ionian Seas offers unspoilt, warm, clear blue waters, which makes sailing an ideal holiday adventure. The seas in Greece are perfect for yachting, whether you choose a bareboat or skippered yacht. What better platform for snorkelling, fishing and windsurfing?  Please ask for details of companies who specialise in yacht charters to combine with your villa holiday.

General Terms and Conditions for all boats as detailed in the price grids:

a) The number of persons indicated is the maximum legal capacity, to include all infants and children. If these numbers are exceeded locally, the boat hire company  has the right to cancel the rental agreement.

b) Engine sizes and HP may vary slightly from those detailed.

c) All boats must be returned/moored by no later than 1900 hrs or one hour before sunset (whichever the earlier) and by law cannot be used at night, therefore car hire may be advisable. Due to local suppliers terms of business, all boats on the islands must be returned each night to the nearest sheltered harbour. Filippos boats hired in June, July or August will be delivered to villas south of Kassiopi in the mornings only. Please ask for details.

d) Storm damage, or loss/damage due to inadequate or careless mooring, is entirely the responsibility of the hirer.

e) Refunds are not given if your boat cannot be used due to bad weather. Decision will be at the discretion of individual boat supplier.

f) Cancellation charges: Small Boat Hire, 14 days prior to departure 25% of total rental, 7 days prior to departure 50% of total rental, less than 7 days prior to departure 100% of total rental. Speedboats: 31 - 15 days prior to departure 50% of total rental, 14 days prior to departure 100% of total rental

g) Bookings for boat hire in Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada and Kefalonia, pre-paid in the UK, may not be altered or refunded in resort.

Disputes or Complaints

Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada and Kefalonia : CV Villas cannot be held responsible for any complaints which arise locally. These must be dealt with on the spot, directly with the boat supplier. Where a refund is in order, written agreement must be obtained from the boat hire supplier. The refund will then be made upon application to the CV Villas office in the UK, provided that it is received within 28 days of return from holiday.

Please note that boat hire cancellation charges match our general terms and conditions. Cancellations in resort will incur a 100% cancellation fee.
