Dessen wichtigste alljährliche Fest der Region, die Rassegna del Chianti Classico in Greve im September, feiert die Weinlese, und Schilder, die zu einem Chianti-Urlaub in eine Enoteca am Straßenrand einladen (Weinverkostungs-Kantine oder Laden). Deren gotische Stadt Siena, südlich des Chianti, ist die größte Bergstadt von allen und bietet eine Menge mittelalterlicher Kunst und Architektur, die in Italien ihresgleichen sucht.

Aber die Toskana hat noch immer Überraschungen zu bieten, und selbst vielen Italienern unbekannt ist. Deren Maremma, nur zwei Autostunden südwestlich der Stadt Florenz, ist ein ausgedehntes und weitgehend unbebautes Gebiet, das in krassem Gegensatz zu den kompakten, geordneten Chianti-Hügeln um Florenz und Siena steht, die bis heute der Hauptanziehungspunkt für Weinliebhaber waren.Der Maremma verfügt über gute Restaurants und eine Fundgrube an neuen Weingütern.
