About the villa

Tucked privately away in the folds of forested hills, this old stone house is perfectly at home with its timeless landscape. Imposing from the outside, it is delightfully welcoming in its big, airy rooms, where mellowed timber beams and terracotta floor tiles create a period frame for 21st century comfort. Rustic chic blends imperceptibly with understated elegance and pictures and photographs by the artistic owners. In the charming breakfast kitchen, well equipped with modern appliances; the cool-toned country style dining room; and the adjacent spacious yet cosy sitting room.A separate library area with extensive book collection and TV room add informal social space, beautiful bedrooms feature four-poster beds, bathrooms are replete with polished marble, and a games room, with table tennis, opens out to the garden. Here there are shaded terraces for dining or simply relaxing and long lawns edged with lavender banks and sprinkled with trees. The beautiful swimming pool is situated in an elevated and sheltered, sunny spot approximately 50m from the villa. Sharing the same private estate as its popular sister-villa Vercenni, large groups rent both houses and dine together on the terrace at Vercenni. The staff look after guests beautifully and Casa di Sopra offers cook service for an extra leisurely touch.

This elegant, timeless house is just 3km from restaurants in Radda, and 33km from the sights of glorious Siena. Guests can enjoy superb local cooking and fine wines at the restaurants in Radda and Siena and at other informal restaurants nestling in the countryside. The speciality food shops both here and in other local villages have a superb selection of these fine wines and other local specialities. The villa is within easy reach of some of the best wine producing estates in Chianti and guests can enjoy tastings at local wineries. An elegant yet informal base to enjoy this beautiful region.

About the area

Chianti and South of Siena

Average weather

The hills south of Florence, known as the Chianti, look like most people’s idea of ‘classic Tuscany’. Fortress towns such as Castellina and Radda look out over mile after mile of rolling, vine-clad fields, spotted with Tuscany villas. The region’s major annual festival, September’s Rassegna del Chianti Classico in Greve, celebrates the grape harvest, and signs inviting anyone on a Chianti holiday to a roadside enoteca (wine tasting canteen or shop) are a common sight. The Gothic city of Siena, south of Chianti, is the biggest hill-town of all, with a stash of Medieval art and architecture unmatched in Italy.

But Tuscany still has surprises to offer, and unknown even to many Italians. Maremma, only a two-hour drive southwest of the city of Florence is an extensive and largely undeveloped territory in stark contrast to the compact, ordered Chianti hillsides around Florence and Siena that have, until now, been the major draw for visiting wine lovers. The Maremma has great restaurants, and a treasure trove of new wineries.
